Havering council to offer accommodation and support to Afghan refugees.

Afghan refugees have started to arrive in the UK after fleeing their homes from the Taliban.

The first batch of refugees were photographed arriving in England yesterday with their families, fleeing the horrors of their former life.

It is believed all councils are expected to rehouse their share of refugees across the United Kingdom.

Havering’s Leader of the Council, Councillor Damian White told the Havering Daily:

“We are working with London Councils and other local partners to ensure we can play our part in offering accommodation and the much wider scope of support people fleeing the threat of death will need.

“We recognise and thank those who have already sacrificed so much in supporting our brave armed forces during their time in Afghanistan.”

Current London Mayor Sadiq Khan has welcomed Afghan refugees to London and has announced plans to help city councils and housing associations support the arrival of these refugees.

Khan has also said that he will expand his ‘Right to buy back’ fund to help London councils purchase homes that can be used to resettle families arriving from Afghanistan.
