Guess what? We’ve found them and it’s all thanks to the help from locals.
Someone who wanted to discover some under-the-radar spots in London posted in the subreddit r/London: “Underrated London places that you would recommend?”
After ranting about Camden Market, the user wanted to know “What are the London spots that you would actually recommend.”
The Reddit post received countless recommendations – let’s take a look at some of them.
@horniman What do you know about the iconic Horniman Walrus? It’s been in our collections for 100s of years, but there are still lots of unknowns about our tusked friend. One thing we do know is that it wasn’t meant to look quite as stuffed as it is. Taxidermists at the time weren’t as familiar with the glorious folds of skin that Walruses have – and so they just kept stuffing until it was full. #hornimanmuseum #museummoment #hornimanwalrus #naturalhistory #naturalscience #taxidermy #taxidermytiktok #learntiktok ♬ original sound – Horniman Museum and Gardens
Hidden gems in London you need to visit
One Reddit user suggested the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill which has been open since the Victorian era and has collections of anthropology and musical instruments, an aquarium, a butterfly house and a natural history collection.
Popular with children, Horniman Museum is smaller and more interactive, giving the impression that it was designed by children.
For parks, one user praised Richmond Park, describing it as a “gigantic park of 2,500 acres open to the public that has deer running around freely, truly a one kind place in London.”
@bydan.mov This has gotta be one of London’s MOST UNDERRATED parks! 😍😍 Packed full of greenery and beautiful plantations, Holland Park, is one of London’s prized hidden gems in the heart of The royal borough of Kensington & Chelsea! 🌿 Historically the grounds of Cope Castle, renamed to Holland House which was mostly destroyed in WWII, the park also is home to the famous Kyoto Gardens which the park is known for! This park is a must visit on a lovely sunny day and is a great place to hang out for hours in the city! 😍 #hollandpark #hollandparklondon #londonhiddengems #hiddenoasis #kyotopark #london ♬ original sound – Dan | Cinematic Travel ✈️ 🎞️
Others suggested Holland Park for its squirrels, even sharing that they’ve “high-fived a squirrel.”
